Businessperson's Special

When we went to the beach on Tuesday, I came home with a head of garlic, seventeen farm-fresh eggs, and four tickets and a parking pass to today's Phillies game.  I made out like a bandit!

Seems my brother-in-law had been given the tickets, and he couldn't go to the game.

I told my comfort zone that I'd be back next week--I had seats behind the dugout, and I couldn't pass up this opportunity.

Caroline stayed in New Jersey to visit with her cousins, so I took Caitlin and Bobby today.

Some of it was about what you'd expect when you take young children to a baseball game and it's about 100 degrees.

Some of it was freakin' awesome--we were in Row 19 behind the Indians' dugout.  We left after the sixth inning--and the score was 12--2 Phillies, so we got to see a lot of action.  Charlie Manuel (the Phillies' manager) was ejected in the second inning, so that brought additional excitement.

The severe thunderstorm on the drive home was scary for some of my companions.  The temperature dropped 25 degrees.  I really didn't mind going 35 on the interstate (more in my comfort zone than going 70 in pouring rain).

I am a salty, sweaty mess.  I am so looking forward to a shower, but the kids and I had a blast.  It's been a pretty good first week of summer.  Maybe my Comfort Zone and I are going to have a sit-down soon--it may be time to renegotiate the terms.

Beach Day

Today I did something pretty out of character for me.  I packed up the kids and drove them an hour away to the beach.

We met my mother-in-law and one of my sisters-in-law and three cousins.

The kids said this was the best day ever.

I'll definitely be doing this again.

And hopefully, I'll get to do a little more knitting than this!

Last day

"The days are long;

the years are short."

It's especially true

on the last day of school.

Emmaline

A few weeks ago, I knit Emmaline.

I used Nature's Choice Organic Cotton in Dusty Blue.  I think it's almost the same color as my dining room.  Really, if everything were dusty blue, I wouldn't complain.  The label on this yarn claims that it's a worsted weight, but it was pretty much right on gauge (I made sure to knit loosely).

Did I mention this only took about a week?

I'm still toying with the idea of adding single crochet around the neckline to firm it up a bit, but in the meantime, I'm just enjoying it.

New Season, New Rhythm

The kids are in school until next Friday, but they have already shifted into summer mode.  There really isn't any more homework, so they come home from school long enough to say, "hi!" and then they're off to friends' houses until dinnertime.  All extracurricular activities have ended for the year,  so we really don't have to be anywhere.  I really like it.

Most nights after supper, Rob and I walk outside to view our "garden."  I think that growing our own food is pretty much magical.  It starts out as a tiny seed, and a few weeks later, you pluck it and eat it!

I have been thinking about this space and how I spend my time...and I think I may be taking on a summer schedule where I post maybe once or twice a week.  Or maybe just picture posts.  I have re-joined the gym (yay!), so my mornings are going to include a lot more downward-facing dog and less google reader.  Rob has started a new job (another big yay!), so this summer we will be easing ourselves into whatever routine his job is going to require.  As my yoga teacher says, "flexible bodies, flexible minds!"

We'll be working on our flexibility.  We'll also be working on that garden--I just love watching the tomatoes grow.  Delayed gratification at its best!  We'll be at the library often.  We'll probably be at the pool, too.  I'll keep a pitcher of lemonade in the fridge for when you stop by...

Almost there

They own a gym.

Hey, strangers!  The kids have twelve more days of school.  We are truly almost there--to those lazy days of summer.  They are signed up for a week of VBS in July and that's it.  Frankly, I'm looking forward to it.  For now, the crazy schedule continues for a few more days...but let me show you where we've been.

Last Saturday, my brother got married!  We drove down to Chattanooga to attend the wedding.  It is always so nice to visit with extended family.  I could go on for days about how much fun we had and about how lovely the wedding was and about how perfectly suited for each other Mike and Katrina are...but let's get to the pictures, shall we?

Here are Ada and Caitlin, the flower girls.  They were both super-excited.

And here comes Caroline and Katrina's nephew, Michael.  Note:  Bobby was also in the wedding, but I was not fast enough with the camera for an action shot, nor did we manage to get a family photo on my camera.  There were plenty of cameras in action, I just haven't seen anyone else's pictures yet.

The wedding took place at the home of a personal training client of Mike's.  She lives on Lookout Mountain, just down the street from Rock City.  You can probably see seven states from her deck, too!

I was too scared to go down there!  Braver photographers than I did so--these pics are taken from the deck.
